Organize a Law Day of Action Event

You don't need a budget, a committee, or experience running events.

You need a courthouse, 30 minutes, and the willingness to show up.

We'll handle the rest.

WHAT "THE REST" MEANS

When you register your event with the national campaign:

  • ✓ Your event is listed on the national map at LawDayofAction.org

  • ✓ We promote it directly to lawyers and legal professionals in your area

  • ✓ You receive the full organizer toolkit: messaging, run-of-show, sample scripts, social media graphics, and signage templates

  • ✓ You're connected to a national network of organizers via coalition calls and a shared resource hub

  • ✓ We conduct national press outreach to amplify local events

  • ✓ If you want a judge to administer the oath, we can help find one in your area

You control: location, scale, speakers, local partners, and how you promote it in your own community.

We support: everything else.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

We want to be specific, because "organizing an event" can sound daunting. Here's what the minimum looks like:

  • ✓ You pick a courthouse or civic space

  • ✓ You share the event with your own network

  • ✓ Lawyers show up — even ten counts

  • ✓ You lead a 20-minute oath reaffirmation

  • ✓ You take one group photo and submit it to us

That's it. That's a successful Law Day of Action event. Everything else is optional.

Choose your Scale

  • What you're doing: Gathering a handful of lawyers — even just yourself and colleagues — at a courthouse or civic space to retake your oaths and take a group photo.

    What you need:

    • A location (courthouse steps work; no permit usually required for a brief, peaceful gathering)

    • The oath text (provided in the toolkit)

    • A phone camera

    • 30 minutes

What we do: List your event on the national map, promote it to lawyers in your city, and provide all materials.

The full run-of-show, scripts, and checklist for this format are in the toolkit at L4GG.org/LawDayToolkit.

  • What you're doing: A courthouse steps rally with brief speakers, oath reaffirmation, and group photo. More visible, more impactful — and still manageable.

    What you need:

    • A confirmed location (may want to check permit requirements)

    • 1–2 speakers (bar leader, judge, allied elected official or civic leader)

    • Megaphone or portable mic for groups over 50

    • A media contact if you want local press coverage

What we do: All of the above, plus: connect you with a national press outreach effort, share your event with coalition partners in your region, and provide a model press release and speaker talking points.

Full run-of-show, scripts, press release template, and media tips are in the toolkit at L4GG.org/LawDayToolkit.

  • What you're doing: Some larger groups may choose to do more robust programming tied to traditional Law Day events, adding a Law Day of Action public oath-taking to optional programming such as panel discussions, Know Your Rights materials, CLE credit, voter registration, or other civic engagement components.

What we do: Connect you with coalition partners in your region, provide all materials, include your event prominently in national outreach, and coordinate with national media.
